A day of suck

I've been in a bad mood all day. I have a busted fridge with a fridge full of not-cold or frozen-any-longer food to deal with. I had my six-month cholesterol check-up today.

My cholesterol was down four points. Four points. I cut beef and pork and lamb and cheese and many other tasty things from my diet, and I learned to like oatmeal. I even got more exercise. It dropped my cholesterol by four points. My triglyceride levels dropped a bit more, but ultimately, a drastic diet change didn't kick my body into gear. It seems that the issue isn't behavioral so much as it is how my body works.

So it's Niacin and fish oil for me.

Fish oil: 1000mg twice a day. Might as well just call in 1g, right?

Niacin: 500mg in the evening with a light, low-fat snack. Continue until I get accustomed to it (two weeks to a month) and then increase to 1000mg. Wait two months, get my blood checked again, and then wait a week and call my doctor.

In the meantime, I will maintain my new diet and I should increase my exercise.

Joy.

And... happy birthday, Sofie. I haven't forgotten. :)
